At the end of the school year, a group of 10 teachers has been reading “The Girl from Aleppo” to the 7th grade. The inspirational story of brave refugee sisters Nujeen and Nisreen, making their way from Aleppo to Germany with a wheelchair, kept the students captivated for weeks. Nujeen kindly agreed to correspond with the students through video messages on Flipgrid, to reflect on her story and answer their many questions, an experience the students will never forget. Reading this book will help shape the world view of these young people and they will forever try to look for the stories behind the headlines, for the people behind the numbers.
