Athletics Portal (login required)
Spanning from the primary school through the high school, sports are an intrinsic part of the overall curriculum at the International School of Stavanger (ISS).
The ISS Athletic Department is committed to providing students with opportunities to participate in and enjoy sports, as well as experience the benefits of teamwork, competition and self-discipline.
ISS offers a variety of interscholastic sports. There is an athletic activity in each of the three seasons:
- Boys football/soccer
- Cross country running
- Girls volleyball
- Boys rugby
- Girls football/soccer
- Track and field
Teams for each of these sports participate in local competitions as well as the NECIS (Northwestern European Council of International Schools) tournament.
Our Team and Players
The coaching staff, consisting of qualified ISS employees, strives to be positive role models for their teams. They are focused on competing well and winning, but, more importantly, developing character and ensuring a fun experience for all.
Our athletic programme is proud of the many ISS athletes who – win or lose – regularly demonstrate fair play and sportsmanship in their athletic endeavors.
Participation and inclusion are fundamental aspects of the ISS athletic department. ISS coordinates schedules closely so students can participate in other extra-curricular activities across the school. While teams are selected with a competitive spirit in mind, there is a spot for everybody in the current athletic programme. All athletes can expect to receive some participation in each game.
The athletic program adheres to the ISS Philosophy, Mission and Vision and all school policies, rules, and regulations. Student-athletes must demonstrate the following traits:
- Academic Achievement
- Competitive Spirit
- Work Ethic
ISS’ onsite facilities include:
- Full-sized artificial and grass fields for football/soccer games
- Six-lane (400-meter) running track
- Racquetball court
- Fitness/weight room
- Four indoor multipurpose gymnasiums
- Baseball/softball field
- Sand volleyball court
- Dance studio
