Welcome to Our World. . .

I would like to send a warm welcome to everyone who has taken the time to visit our school’s website. Thank you for wishing to learn more about our school community.

Founded in 1966, the International School of Stavanger has a long and strong tradition of serving the needs of those seeking an English-language education in the dynamic Stavanger Region.

With over 700 students representing some 44 nationalities from six continents, ISS truly is a crossroads of diversity. For a number of years, citizens of Great Britain have been the largest nationality throughout the school. The next two largest groups by nationality are US and Norwegian citizens. We currently have substantial--and growing--numbers of students from Australia, Canada, France, India, Italy, Germany, Poland and The Netherlands as well as students from many other nations.

The ISS vision reminds us that we “prepare students for greater global participation by helping them become responsible, empowered learners.” On this site, you will find evidence of some of the ways we work together to accomplish that vision. Our international curriculum has been carefully designed to stretch our students while they are here in Stavanger and prepare them for universities around the world, for their next international assignment, or back to their home country.  Both the IB Diploma and the IGCSE are available for high school students and many years of strong results underscore the dedication of our students and teachers working together.

Because of the growing size of the school, the Board of Trustees has recently made the decision to expand the facilities. During the summer of 2010, work will begin to add more classrooms, science laboratories, sports facilities, ICT resources, a new primary school library and improvements to our kitchen/cafeteria. During the construction process, special consideration is being paid to safety in all aspects of the project. The purpose of the construction is our intention to be able to better serve the needs of our school community and the results will provide us with many additional exciting options for teaching and learning. We have received wonderful support from the local governments in the project and we are grateful for their assistance.

With a world-class staff, a wonderfully supportive Board of Trustees, an active and positive Parent Association and—best of all--our remarkable student body, ISS has much to offer.
