About the Primary School
ISS Primary School’s first responsibility is to its children.
We present a program based on the concept of the continuous growth
of the whole child, designed to foster positive goals and beliefs
while actively engaging children in the learning process. We recognize
individual needs and the different rates of growth and maturation.
Special attention to cognitive, physical, artistic, social and
emotional development is emphasized throughout the Primary School.
These areas of development, coupled with the core elements of
our curriculum, prepare children for the educational opportunities
beyond their Primary School years.
ISS Primary School is designed for children from three through
eleven years old interested in an English language education.
Placement is normally made by birth date. A child must be five
before September 1 to start in the first full academic year, Kindergarten.
ISS Primary School offers an international curriculum which draws
upon best practices from several national curricular models, including
those from North America, United Kingdom, Australia and international
curricula. For classes in language arts, mathematics, social studies,
science and computer studies, children work in self-contained
classrooms. Learning support is offered on a limited basis for
English as an additional language and students in need of extra
support in language arts and mathematics. Available on a limited
basis are lessons in Dutch and German, with some classes offered
after school hours. Specialists teach children art, music (including
band for grade 5), library science, Norwegian and physical education.
