Middle School Curriculum

Curriculum Overview

Dear Middle School Parent:

Welcome to the Middle School!

The Middle School at the International School of Stavanger has a vibrant, supportive and enthusiastic environment. We feel confident that your child and family will enjoy the middle school experience!

Our objective is to provide a true Middle School programme that is developmentally appropriate and academically enriching. Our role is to support students, to encourage positive attitudes and relationships, to teach them strategies and processes and to be there when they need help. The Middle School at The International School of Stavanger is specifically designed to provide for the unique, diverse and changing physical, social, emotional, interpersonal and intellectual needs of students who are progressing from childhood to adolescence.

To accomplish these goals, the dedicated and highly professional teachers bring not only high levels of experience in education, but also a total commitment to the wellbeing of each student.

The curriculum is integrated, challenging and exploratory with varied approaches to Teaching and Learning. There are also comprehensive performing arts opportunities and a wide variety of athletic competitions and extra-curricular activities.

ISS provides a comprehensive Middle School programme based on the National Middle School Association, The European League of Middle Level Education (and several other leading educational bodies) exemplars of middle level education. We have developed for you here a guideline for registration for courses and an outline of the Middle School programme.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the choices or the registration process, please feel free to call or email me, the Middle School administrative assistant (Ms. Marit Cromwell) or the Middle School counsellor (Mr. Matthew Armstrong). We look forward to working with you and your child/children in the Middle School.

Yours sincerely,

Carol A. Wallace
Middle School Principal
